Peace Within

[Dharma Center Monthly Mindfulness Tip – March 2022]

External peace is as fragile as flower.
Through force and threat and shame
Tension is created
And we call it peace.
Like a blossom
Standing strong against
Wind and rain
The tension holds space
For the internal struggle.
But eventually the petals rip apart
And cannot be put back together.

Anger and hatred and confusion reign,
Filling us with the terror of war.
And sorrow drowns us in tears.

Only when we stop
Fully stop
Do we see
Peace comes from within.
Always.
Take your eyes from the raging world,
For just a moment.
Feel your breath.

Inhale. Exhale.
Inhale. Exhale.

Let every frazzled edge settle.
Release every opinion of right and wrong.
Allow the mind to rest on the breath.

Inhale. Exhale.
Inhale. Exhale.

Within the rise and fall
Embrace
Peace within.

Once stabilized
Silently radiate
Calm
Into all the worlds.
Leave the tension behind
And dance with the rhythm of
Peace within.
