When I talk to people who have been walking the Path for a while, there seems to be much confusion about the occult practice of Inaccessibility. Inaccessibility is not about hiding. It is about blending in and quietly letting Light shine into this world.
In the beginning, it is good to keep your spiritual practice private. It takes times to build confidence and a strong foundation for your spiritual study. By not talking too much about your practice, you’re able to have your own experiences and assess their impact without being dissuaded by people who do not practice. We maintain a sense of privacy to keep ourselves from losing energy. Once you know meditation works for you, then it is time to leave this self-protective phase.
We leave behind secrecy in favor of Inaccessibility. Instead of limiting our close interactions to only others who practice meditation, we can expand and learn to have meaningful exchanges with all types of people. We learn to blend into our surroundings and be whatever is needed in any situation.
Inaccessibility involves opening the heart. The heart chakra is the receptive part of our being. Instead of pushing out our ideas, we open to what is present. We listen and observe those around us without criticism. Meetings no longer drain our energy because we no longer try to control those around us.
We make ourselves inaccessible by not forcing our will on others. When we are inaccessible, our individual self is not important, and there is no need to pour out our energy. We can walk into a room full of people with our heart completely open and not be sapped because we walk in with the intention to be there as it is, not how we want it to be. By keeping the ego out of the way, infinite light can shine through us unobstructed.
This practice of inaccessibility shaves down our ego attachments very quickly. As we interact with others, and we find ourselves being drained, it is a clear indication of an attachment. At some point in the exchange, we pushed out our energy because we reacted to an idea that knocked us off balance. We left the inaccessibility of the heart in favor of the exertion of the will.
Rather than being fixated on a limited identity, we can open to the limitless possibilities within us. Inaccessibility allows us to practice this skill while living and working in the world.
Beautiful. Inaccessibility seems like a strange word for what is being described, but whatever you call it, this is what needs to happen in order for the ego to finally be trained.
